Sit back, relax and take in the soothing dry heat of the Oceanic Finnish Sauna. One of our most popular saunas, it comes as a free-standing timber cabin that goes inside your home. This ready-to-go style is handmade to order in our UK factory, but if you can’t find the exact size you’re looking for we can modify an existing model to fit. Once you’ve chosen your sauna, it will be delivered flat-packed to your door, ready to be installed.
WHAT IS A FINNISH SAUNA?
A Finnish sauna is a wooden cabin that is warmed up by a heater with rocks to an average temperature between 70°C and 90°C, with a maximum of 110°C. You can add water to the rocks for a short burst of steam that will leave your skin feeling hot, but the high air temperature usually stays above dew point (the point at which air becomes humid) so it remains dry.
The cabin comes with a timber floor mat, benches, backrest, electric heater with digital controls, lighting and accessory pack as standard.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
A Finnish sauna provides the perfect place to unwind. You simply turn it on and either sit or lie down on the benches that are installed inside (depending on which sauna size you have) and allow yourself to be absorbed in the heat. You can choose your preferred temperature level and decide how much time you spend there – but remember that the upper level will be hotter because heat rises. If you’re new to the experience, we recommend starting lower and slowly increasing.
Most people will sit inside for about 15 minutes before having a cold shower, resting for 30 minutes, and then repeating the same pattern. You can do this two or three times, so that an average session lasts about two hours.
THE HEALTH BENEFITS
Research shows that there are some great health benefits associated with using saunas. Raising the body temperature and heat exposure has been shown to reduce blood pressure, cardiac illnesses and stress. As well as that, there’s also evidence that it benefits the respiratory system, muscle and bone mass, chronic illnesses and can help you live longer.
If you are intending to use a sauna for a health condition, we recommend you consult your GP first. Please also be mindful that there are some risks associated with using a sauna, so you should make sure to stay hydrated and avoid drinking alcohol.

SETTING UP YOUR SAUNA
All of our saunas come flat-packed with assembly instructions. Unless you’re a dab hand at DIY, we suggest you choose a local fitter or carpenter to install it.
The wall and ceiling panels are pre-constructed, but the benches, backrest and floor mats will need to be assembled before they go in. For a two-person sauna, it will typically take around one day to install; anything larger will take longer.
All our Finnish sauna heaters must be hardwired to the mains with an all-pole isolator switch. Our domestic sauna heaters can be wired with a single-phase or three-phase connection. The electrical connection to the heater must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
THE INSTALLATION CHECKLIST
Before you think about purchasing one of our saunas, you need to check that you can provide the following things:
- A level, washable floor, preferably stone, ceramic or concrete
- 25mm air gap all around the cabin to allow air to circulate
- Minimum ceiling height 2000mm
- A suitable power supply: an isolated 230V single phase or 400V three phase supply to the correct standard, installed by a qualified electrician
- There must be space for the door of the cabin to open outward, from either a left or right hinge. In restricted areas it’s possible to assemble the sauna cabin from the inside.
TIMBER CLADDING
There are two types of timber that can be used to line the inside and the outside areas on show. We fix the timber to the panel frame so that you can’t see the nails, giving it a smooth, clean finish.
Scandinavian spruce
Spruce is an ideal material for saunas because it has low heat absorption and a low resin content. In the northern areas of Scandinavia where it’s cooler, the trees are pruned and thinned and they grow slowly to provide strong, straight timbers. The timber is kiln dried in the country of origin, then checked for quality before being assembled into a sauna cabin. We only purchase top-grade material that is free from dead knots, splits and shakes.
Canadian hemlock
Western Canadian hemlock is another excellent timber for saunas. It doesn’t warp even when exposed to extreme conditions, it’s knot and resin free, very hard and strong and has an attractive straight grain. Hemlock ranges in colour from warm reds to browns, which combine to create a beautiful appearance. This timber is typically around twice the cost of Scandinavian spruce so it will affect the final price of your sauna. The frame of any glass or door panels will also be made from Hemlock if selected.
BENCH KIT
Our bench kits come with benches, backrests and floor mats. Benches can be open or filled in, but please note that we use more timber for the filled-in option so it’s more expensive.
BENCH TIMBER
You can choose from either spruce or knot-free abachi timber for the benches, backrests and floor mats. Abachi timber is less dense and cooler to the touch, so you don’t need a towel when you sit on it, but it is typically around twice the price of spruce.
GLASS PANEL LAYOUT
Glass panels can be added to the sauna to let in more natural light, help you see in and make a small area feel more spacious. We can add in glass panels in three different ways:
- Layout A - Timber on all sides with a glass door
- Layout B - Front wall in glass with the rest in timber
- Layout C - Front and side wall in glass with the remaining rear and side wall in timber
GLASS COLOUR
You can choose two different types of glass, both cost the same. There is clear glass and a darker bronze-tinted glass, which helps to create a more private and atmospheric environment.
SAUNA HEATER
The Oceanic Finnish Sauna is supplied with a Finnish-style electric sauna heater with sauna rocks. You can add water to the rocks if you want but this is primarily a dry sauna. If you want to increase the humidity, there’s an option to add a small steam generator and convert the sauna into a saunarium. A heater guard and rocks are supplied with all heaters as standard.
For most domestic Finnish saunas (up to and including 6kw) we provide an Oceanic wall-mounted Finnish sauna heater with built-in digital controls. This heater is the simplest to install, requiring one power cable to the heater.
For some saunas, you can choose the Apollo heater that stands on the floor and has more rocks. It requires less maintenance and is more efficient. You can also add a steamer attachment which is controlled through our saunarium control system to provide more humidity.
EXTERNAL CONTROLS
If you would like an external keypad to control the sauna, you can upgrade.
The Oval keypad allows you to digitally program the start time, working time and target temperature for the sauna. You can also add up to two lighting circuits. The keypad also displays diagnostic information, such as if the sauna overheats.
LIGHTING
To brighten up your sauna, you can opt for a variety of lighting options, which include:
- Low-voltage downlights, which are provided as standard. These can either be controlled via an external control system or wired into a nearby wall switch
- Optional linear LED accent lighting kit available in either warm white or RGB colour change variant. Required to backlight backrests and bench infills
- Optional wall lamp and shade
TIMBER PROTECTION
Saunas are a safe, relaxing space, which is why our saunas are typically made from untreated timber so as not to release any chemicals in the air. If you want to change the colour of the timber on the inside or outside, you can use our specially manufactured sauna wax which won’t produce any toxins. We also have a bench protector to make it easier to clean. Saunas with a steam unit included will be supplied with a special coating for the timber to prevent water absoption.
ACCESSORIES
A full set of accessories are included with each sauna.
ELECTRICAL INFO
- Sauna heaters do not operate from a 3 pin plug, they require hard wiring via an isolator switch using a high-temperature silicone rubber cable (not included) to BSEN 6141.
- Built-in control heaters require three core silicon bound heat proof cables, 4m length is supplied with the heater. Longer lengths can be ordered as an extra.
- Heaters with external controls require five core silicon bound heat proof cables, a 4m length of cable for wiring onto the ceiling is supplied.
- Each timber panel has an internal gully that allows the wire to be hidden inside the panel if required.
- For heaters with built-in controls the lights must also be controlled separately.
- Wall lights must be wired with a silicon bound heat proof cable. Silicon bound cables are available to purchase from our sauna accessories page.
- For heaters with external controls, the control box will supply power to the heater, keypad, lights and temperature sensor. The control box is typically positioned on the roof of the cabin if there is sufficient headroom (minimum height 2.2m). For lower ceiling height mount the control box onto a nearby wall, longer lengths of five core cable is available if required.
- The cost to run an average sauna cabin with a 4.5kw heater is 1.26€ per hour. (using an average unit cost of 0.28€ per kWh). Please check with your service provider for exact unit costs.
INSTALLATION NEED-TO-KNOWS
We recommend a carpenter or joiner assembles the sauna. Installation for an average-size sauna takes around one to two days, larger and commercial models may take two or more days. Please bear in mind that you’ll need the following:
- A level, washable floor, preferably vinyl, stone, ceramic or concrete
- 25mm air gap all around the cabin to allow air to circulate
- All measurements are external measurements and are + or - 10mm
- A suitable power supply: an isolated 230V single phase supply to the correct standard installed by a qualified electrician
- In restricted areas it’s possible to assemble the sauna cabin from the inside
- The door of the cabin can be hinged left or right but must open outward
- A qualified electrician must be used for the installation of the sauna heater.

Note: To keep the cost as low was we can the external face of panels on the rear of and on one side wall will be clad in spruce as it is assumed these will not be visible. If for any reason you do want hemlock cladding on the outside of both side walls/rear walls please call for a price.

BUILT IN DIGITAL CONTROL HEATER (included as standard)
Oceanic wall hung compact heater for domestic use with digital controls for time and temperature are incorporated into the base of the unit. 1.5 hour timer with automatic high temperature safety cut off. Suitable to single or three phase connection (4.5 - 6kW units)

OCSB DIGITAL CONTROL HEATER (upgrade to: Wall hung heater with OCSB Controls)
For the most reliable, accurate and quickest heating of your sauna our simple to use OCSB control system is the best solution. Control the time, temperature, lighting and fan from the easy to use keypad that can be mounted up to 10m from the main control box, typically on the front of the cabin. Heavy duty relays sequentially switch the elements to ensure accurate and efficient control of the internal sauna temperature which is measured by a wall mounted temperature sensor.

Nested inside is a vented rock basket that protects the elements beneath from direct contact with water being poured over the rocks, this reduces the failure rate and maintenance cost involved with running your sauna. Want more from your sauna experience? The optional slimline Apollo steam unit mounts directly to the side of the heater converting your sauna into a saunarium with minimal fuss.

SAUNARIUM HEATER
The Oceanic Finnish Saunarium is supplied with a Finnish-style electric sauna heater with sauna rocks and 1kW mini steam generator. To increase the humidity, use the small steam generator and convert the sauna into a saunarium. A heater guard and rocks are supplied with all heaters as standard.
SAUNARIUM EXPERIENCE
Nowadays thanks to digital controls a broad variation of conditions can be experienced in a single room; our traditional stauna heater combines a steam generator with a sauna heater with a controller that allows a number of settings as follows –
Sauna – the traditional dry air bathing with temperatures from 75 to around 100ºC – water can be splashed onto the rocks for short bursts of humidity – the tradition dates back more than 2000 years.
Tepidarium – hot steam bathing with temperatures from 55 to 65ºC the steamer operates for 80% of the time – provides a superb and invigorating hot steam experience.
Sanarium – soft steam with temperatures from 48 to 55ºC the steamer operates around 90% of the time for a softer more gentle experience to melt away aches or ease the strains of a stressful day.
Caldarium – 100% steaming – temperatures up to 48ºC the steamer is also operating continuously – add crushed herbs or a few drops of essential oil to the steamer for aromatherapy treatments to suit your mood.
Special water resistant coating - in order to cope with the differing conditions and the high levels of humidity staunacoat barrier treatment is applied to all of the internal surfaces of the cabin walls ceiling and benches to stop water being absorbed.
SAUNARIUM . WALL HUNG HEATER + MINI STEAM GENERATOR
Thanks to the saunarium, transform a simple wooden sauna cabin into a new realm of relaxation. This sauna heater + mini steam generator set combines the dry heat of a sauna with the gentle steam of a hammam.
It installs in your wooden sauna cabin. The external control box will perfectly control the humidity and "dry" heat levels, safely and for your utmost comfort.

Special water resistant coating

DELIVERY OF YOUR ORDER
We manufacture the cabins (saunas and steam baths) at the request of the client, so we do not have stock available immediately.
For orders of big size, when asking for a quote, recipient will have to inform our team about any issues that can occur during delivery (i.e. road forbidding trucks above 3.5t) - this can be done by email to one of our agents. In case correct information is not provided, Oceanic Saunas will have the right to charge the customer for the extra cost occurred by the change from a regular truck to a specific one to ensure access to restricted areas for the delivery; this payment can be taken up to 30 minutes prior to the delivery. It is essential that Oceanic Saunas is informed in advance so that we can gain the correlating details to ensure deliveries are completed in the most convenient way possible.
For delivery to the islands, it is required to add a protective layer of wood to the pallet to prevent damage during transport, with an additional mandatory cost of €50 or €75 depending on the item.
Deliveries are made at your door, that is, at the main door or portal of your home or property, at street level – the pallets or packages will be delivered in front of the main door of your house or building. They will not be uploaded or delivered within your home.
Delivery will be made with a flatbed truck as long as there is sufficient access at destination, delivery at street level and full readiness to receive the merchandise. Sufficient access: the truck must be able to access the delivery point without difficulty, it must have enough space to manoeuvre or be able to leave without any problem. The client has to notify Oceanic Saunas of any access problem that might exist. In the event that the delivery conditions are not adequate, Oceanic Saunas reserves the right to cancel the order and return the amount of the merchandise, subtracting the cost of transport to and from the collection.
We recommend that two people are available to unload the pallet: unloading usually takes about 20 minutes. It is important to wear gloves and protective glasses for handling, especially when handling glass parts.
Sauna or steam room orders cannot be changed, cancelled or returned once the pallet has been collected from our warehouse.

WARRANTY
All Oceanic products are guaranteed for 3 years in the event of a lack of conformity.
The warranty does not apply to "consumable" parts, such as elements, for example.
This range of product will not be exchanged or refunded once it has left our warehouse.

Timber warranty
What does this timber warranty cover?
The warranty covers any defects to timber materials used within the sauna under normal use. This includes the internal cladding, external cladding, benches, bench supports, backrests and floor mats.
What will Oceanic do to correct a problem?
In the rare event that a warranty claim is required Oceanic Saunas will provide a replacement for any confirmed broken piece of timber. This will not necessarily require the entire part to be replaced, e.g. an individual bench slat rather than the entire bench. Oceanic may offer a replacement but the customer may be required to return the product to Oceanic at the customer’s expense. The customer should follow the claims procedure as described below.
How long does the coverage last?
The timber warranty covers all the timber parts mentioned above for five years commencing from the point of sale/purchase by the customer. No certificate is required and there is no need to activate the warranty, all records of the purchase are kept by Oceanic Saunas SL.
What does this warranty not cover?
- Use of domestic equipment in a commercial environment
- Loss or theft
- Damage resulting from negligence
- Damage resulting from unauthorised modification
- Damage caused by natural disaster
- Consequential and indirect damage caused
- On site installation, fitting or removal of items
What do you have to do?
- To make a warranty claim, the customer is required to provide all information required by Oceanic to assess the issue.
- Oceanic may request detailed photographs
- Oceanic will make a judgement based on this information as to what replacement parts may be needed or if items need to be returned and replaced
- Where a replacement is granted, the customer must first return the initial product to Oceanic or may be required to be sent to the product manufacturer, this will be confirmed by Oceanic during the claim’s procedure. The return shall be at the expense of the customer and should be sent via a recorded courier service. Oceanic holds no liability for items lost or damaged in transit.
